Athletics
Dalton Parks and Recreation Department supports many types of Athletics, from Youth Basketball to Senior Softball. Dalton Parks and Recreation Department began in the 50's with the forward vision of James E. Brown along with other city leaders to fund the recreation department through a dedicated millage on property within the city limits. This funding help to build a leader in Recreation and Parks in the state of Georgia and is known nation wide. This funding not only help build facilities but allowed DPRD to offer all children in Dalton/Whitfield County the opportunity to participate, for free, in all "drafted" leagues sponsored by the Recreation Department. Nearly 2750 - 3000 children yearly play in athletics such as Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Soccer and Football. The only cost to the families is spending time with their child and to create the special memories that sports provide for a life time.
