Mayor David Pennington: David Pennington started his term as Mayor in January of 2008. During his term as Mayor, the City Council has reduced General Fund spending by 19% and has reduced taxes each and every year. Because the Mayor is a part time position, you can also locate Mr. Pennington at Advanced Insurance Strategies, which he founded. He is a third generation Dalton small business owner. David Pennington graduated from Dalton High School and Dalton Junior College. He then went on to graduate from the University of Georgia where he received a Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Economics. A Dalton native, he is married to Pamela and has a son, David IV, and daughter, Mary Jane.
Mayor Pennington is a member and past president of the Dalton Rotary Club, he is a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow and Will Watt Fellow.
He is a board member and founding member of the Northwest Georgia Healthcare Partnership.
He is a past board member of Hamilton Medical Center.
He is a member and past president of the Dalton Education Foundation.
He is a trustee for the Dalton State College Foundation.
He is a former Chairman of the Dalton Whitfield Chamber of Commerce.
He is a past Director of the Hardwick Bank and Trust Company.
He is a past Director and President for Habitat for Humanity.
He is a director of GEEARS, a statewide board for promoting early childhood education.

Mayor Pennington is known as an outspoken advocate for fiscal discipline at all levels of government.
