
Mayor David Pennington
Mayor David Pennington: As a Dalton native, Mayor David Pennington graduated from Dalton High School and Dalton Junior College. He then went on to graduate from the University of Georgia where he received a Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Economics. During his term as Mayor the City Council has reduced the general Fund Spending by 19% and has reduced taxes each and every year. He began to serve as Mayor in January 2008. Because the Mayor is a part time position, you can also locate Mr. Pennington at Advanced Insurance Strategies, which he founded. He is a third generation Dalton small business owner. He’s married to Pamela and has a son, David IV, and daughter, Mary Jane.
Mayor Pennington is a member and past president of the Dalton Rotary Club, he is a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow and Will Watt Fellow. He was the 2011 recipient of the Dalton Rotary Club Lee Arrendale Vocational Excellence Award. He is a board member and was one of the founders of the Northwest Georgia Healthcare Partnership. He is a past board member of Hamilton Medical Center. He is a member and past president of Dalton Education Foundation, as well as a trustee for the Dalton State College Foundation. He is a past director of the Hardwick Bank and Trust Company, and he is a former chairman of the Dalton Whitfield Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Pennington serves as a liaison for the Solid Waste Management Authority Board, Finance and Administration Committee, Economic Development Authority, Building Authority and Pension Board.
Mayor Pennington is known as a outspoken advocate for fiscal discipline at all levels of government.
