The City of Dalton Public Works Department plays a vital role in providing many services for the citizens of Dalton.
The Department's Sanitation Division works hard to ensure every City residence is provided with once per week curbside garbage collection, once per week curbside recycling collection, and twice per month rubbish & household debris collection.
The Department is also responsible for the City's transportation systems which includes street maintenance and resurfacing, right of way and sidewalk maintenance, and traffic control devices including traffic signals, signage, and pavement markings.
To keep the City beautiful, the Department's Landscaping Division maintains the landscaping for municipal parks and buildings as well as the trees and plantings located within the right of way and in historic Downtown Dalton.
West Hill Cemetery and Chapel are also special responsibilities of the Public Works Department.
Effective January 1, 2015, the Public Works Department was charged with ongoing maintenance and operational responsibilities of the City’s stormwater infrastructure. For issues related to stormwater located within the publicly owned right-of-way, please contact the Public Works Department at (706) 278-7077.
Also effective January 1, 2015, the Whitfield County Engineering Department became the review/issuing authority for all stormwater and land disturbance permits related to local development projects within the City limits.
